The public has a very confused understanding of MAPs

Mu is an international organization representing MAPs around the world. A recent survey of various MAP communities revealed a number of key concerns. One of the biggest issues was the misunderstanding of minor-attraction and all it entails. Let's take a quick look at some of the major misunderstandings.

Attraction is not action

Most people attracted to adults act on their feelings by having sex with other adults. Therefore, everyone assumes that most people attracted to minors must inevitably act on their feelings by having sex with minors. This is far too simplistic. First of all, there are widespread disagreem...

Survey results indicated that non-sexual connections with children are immensely important to MAPs.

In September 2024, Mu surveyed a number of MAPs on our own MAP Forum, B4U-Act's message board B4um, and the popular GirlLover board Visions of Alice.

We asked ten questions about the feelings and experiences of participants. In this two-part article, we will summarize trends, provide key quotes from the survey, and finish with a brief analysis of key findings.

This is Part 2 of 2.

Question 8. What changes are needed?

Responses varied, but awareness and understanding of the true nature of minor-attraction and MAPs was the most common de...

The first of Mu's published surveys shone a light on the isolation faced by the MAP community.

Here is Part 1 of 2.

Mu thanks the administrators of B4U-Act and Visions of Alice for supporting our survey of their communities.

Question 1. When did you first realize you were a MAP, and how did you feel?

This post deals with themes of suicide, MAP phobia, and incarceration. If you are struggling with suicidal thoughts, we understand that calling for support can be an intimidating experience. Please consider these resources on B4U-ACT to see if there is something appropriate. You deserve life.

September is Suicide Prevention Month. You might have noticed links to various mental health hotlines appearing more frequently as you browse the internet. Or maybe you have seen people wearing teal and purple ribbons as they go about shopping. Suicide is a problem for all segments of the community, but particular demographics are especially vulnerable. Indigenous people, men, people...

A logo for the inaugural MAP Camp (as planned)

Mu is an umbrella organization for MAPs that has no official connection with MAP Camp. Following social media fallout over our prior press release and contact with media organizations, we issue the following response.

First of all, we are concerned that certain people have been labeled as responsible for hosting the event. Their personal information has been broadcast on social media, despite those individuals denying any association. We believe that such doxxing is dangerous, especially on an issue as sensitive as minor-attraction. People have been killed over accusations of "pedophilia", whether those accusations have been...

MAP Camp was planned as a peaceful meeting of minor-attracted people

Mu is an international umbrella organization seeking to represent the MAP community. While it supported the MAP Camp event being held, it has no ties with MAP Camp itself, nor with the organizers of the event.

MAP Camp was a planned social gathering for minor-attracted people (MAPs) that was scheduled to be held this weekend at a campground in Vermont. It was first organized in July of this year by civil rights group MEDAL (MAP Equality, Dignity, and Liberation) but soon after became independently run. Preparation for the camp seemed to be going smoothly until bullies on X (formerly Twitter) caught win...

Another highly respected figure, and BBC star, has been dethroned following a 'child sex scandal'

Celebrity "pedophilia" is again making headlines this summer, causing considerable embarrassment and a sense of deja-vu for a public-broadcasting institution.

When the news first broke, the British public were apparently shocked to hear their 'national treasure', BBC bigwig, and royal reporter Huw Edwards apparently had some kind of interest in teenagers. Never mind that he had not been accused of sexual interaction with anyone under the local age of consent (16). Having any sexual interest in minors, under the age of 18, was itself a cardinal sin.

The star presente...

Members of the public have appealed to sporting "ideals" and "values" in decrying the athlete's participation, despite the fact he had been welcomed back into his sport in 2018, and has since competed at the highest level

One of the key stories of the Olympics and its buildup has been the participation of Dutch volleyball player Steven van de Velde. Branded a 'child rapist' in the majority of news and social media articles, it is easy to assume that he forced himself upon an unwilling child. That is not the case.

In many countries - including the UK where the incident occurred - oral, vaginal, or anal sex with a person under a certain age is automatically treated as 'rape...
